According to a post on the Destination Waikanae website.  In a response to the announcement of its closure back in June, Michael Scott stated that it was likely the demolition and redevelopment of the site as a parking lot would be ‘fast-tracked’.

This site would have been a good one for a casino or some other form of entertainment as suggested by a supporter during the February by-election, but cars are more important than people…

Despite this, our hunch is that after the Expressway opens, the site of the Countdown supermarket will be available for something.

This date was incorrect — the pub closed for the last time on Sunday 20 September and the buildings were demolished over 11-12 November.
