Waikanae Beach March 2015

Kia ora tâtou

My name is Brandy Griffin. I am new to the Strategy and Planning team at Council, working with Alison and Sam.

This email is because we just wanted to get in touch to let you know what’s going on.

We are close to finalising a document which captures all the rich and interesting feedback you have given us regarding what you love about Waikanae Beach and what your concerns are for its future. In pulling that together, it has become clear that it would be useful to hold some information sessions on specific topics. Please put a holder in your diaries for any of the following sessions you are interested in and we will confirm exact times and venues once we have these sorted out.

Tuesday 10 November evening – A non-council expert will talk briefly about the design of urban form – what tools are available and what issues need to be considered – and then answer questions. This will include some discussion of examples of special character areas. If you have any examples of great urban form/design you know about, please bring along any information or pictures to share.

Wednesday 18 November evening – Council planners and an external expert will talk about what can and can’t be done with land use planning and consenting processes. Bring all your expertise and questions about the complex world of land use planning.

Sunday 29 November afternoon – Experts from the Council and external organisations will talk about traffic and transport planning and management including cycleways, traffic calming measures, and what modelling has been done of the expressway impacts. Greater Wellington Regional Council will also have someone present to answer questions about public transport services.

On a different topic, the online forum is progressing. We are in the testing phase, making sure it is easy to use and does what is needed. Modifications should be finalised next week and we hope to have it ready to use by the last week of this month or the first week of November at the latest. In the meantime, as you have been alerted in a previous email, the council’s website has a page with frequently asked questions and answers here or you can access it from the Hot Topics list on the council’s home page.

We are all looking forward to seeing you at the sessions in November, and I will be looking forward to meeting you.
