The water meters have been the biggest waste of money by the KCDC and they are going to continue to be a stupid impost on citizens with the amount spent paying their readers (at least $1 million a year) and then administration on billing the amounts.
Michael Scott, the present Waikanae ward councillor isn’t mentioned, however his predecessor Tony Lloyd, who died in November 2014, voted against them.
Waikanae – Where water flows out to the sea.
Heard someone was looking for a line or two to put Waikanae on the map – how about this line.
Well guess we are coming up to half way through the working life of the current meters!
We have so few councilors who are in tune with ratepayers and the larger number who are not.
Also we have such a short time till the next elections and it would be really really good to have a site where people (ratepayers or not) can make their preferences for continued council spending clearly known.
Living in Waikanae (where the water flows down to the sea) I can think of a number of improvements and it would be nice to list them out – perhaps with a facility where people can click a yes or no to gauge reaction.
Given a listing for each ward and a corporate our councilors should then have no doubt of ratepayers expectations from the next election. If this helps to stop those elected change their vote midstream it can only be a vast improvement.
The meters are supposed to have a life in the ground of 10 years so at present we are only about a quarter the way into that, but the longer they are there, the less their resale value.
Having a list of proposals involving change, including their cost to implement, that people can vote on, sounds like a good idea — something the KCDC should do on its website.
