Waikanae police

The front page of the Kapiti Observer on Thursday carried the headline ‘Fears close police base’ which seems a little ironic since the police exist to neutralise fears caused by criminals.  However, the police national office is concerned about risks to volunteers from thugs in community kiosks where there isn’t actually a police officer present.

Although there are unsavoury types in Waikanae as there are everywhere else, the town isn’t noted for violence. Nevertheless, the police are the latest shop tenants to vacate Mahara Place.  Those with police matters need to visit the base at the corner of Rimu Road and Kapiti Road in Paraparaumu from now on.
