The KCDC has had more than its fair share of it, so this report in Kapiti Independent News about the next district to the north, Horowhenua, is something that Kapiti Coast people can well relate to.
“The strongest clapping came when councillor Barry Judd said Campbell had publicly accused him of corruption and insider trading.
“Levin-based councillor Bernie Wanden said Campbell had turned Horowhenua district into a circus.”
Unlike the Prime Ministership, the Mayor of a local council is chosen specifically by voters, and that is probably a good thing. The Deputy Mayor gets chosen by the Mayor, so things ought to be reasonably smooth, although we note Dr Kerry Bolton’s comment that Mayor Guru told him and his wife that he appointed Cr Holborow his deputy because he ‘did not want to be stabbed in the back’ (sic); we agree that seems hardly a reason for public confidence in his selection.
