Waimate is a small town in Canterbury that State Highway 1 bypasses, but this sign advises motorists that they can visit the town, without retracing the journey, by means of connecting roads north and south.

Destination Waikanae wants signage to tell motorists on the ‘Ewy’ where Waikanae is and what’s to see and do.  Something like this in each direction seems reasonable, NZTA?
