The figures according to the idnz website

2006: 179,000

2017: 209,000

2043: 250,000 predicted

This relates to the Wellington City Council area and excludes the Hutt Valley (about 148,000 at present) and Porirua (55,000).

Apart from the areas east of the railway line, Waikanae’s population didn’t grow much between the 2006 and 2013 censuses, but with the new subdivisions and the Ryman complex, has grown since — and with the current subdivisions like Kohekohe, Millvale and the massive Maypole company one, is expected to see a rapidly growing population from about 11,000+ now to 15,000 within a few years.
