“Mail Coach crossing the river” by Ernest Papps. Being Otaki-based, it’s a reasonable assumption that it’s the Otaki River.
This booklet was published recently by Michael O’Leary, one of the guys who runs the Kakariki second hand bookshop in the Paekakariki Station, and the contents are obvious.
In 40 A4 pages plus cover, it provides a potted history of waka, stagecoaches, trains, road vehicles and planes on the Kapiti Coast, and mentions the transport museums — the Paekakariki Station including Steam Inc, the McKays Crossing to the Beach Tramway, the Airport Aviation Museum, and naturally, the Southward Auto Museum.
It can be bought for $15 at the Mahara Gallery and other outlets.
