Mahara topless statue

In this article on the stuff website, Joel Maxwell has taken up the concerns expressed in a letter to the editor about what could happen to this:-

Art lovers on the Kāpiti Coast are crying cultural vandalism as they fear a multimillion-dollar upgrade of central Waikanae will leave no place for the town’s prominent sculptures.

An art installation in Mahara Place has featured a bare-breasted bronze Māori woman, floating children, and stone carvings of the spirits of Gaia for the past 25 years.

The response from the council is that no decisions have yet been made about what will happen to it or Mahara Place generally.  Hopefully, the bureaucrats involved will heed a loud and unequivocal message from the people to leave this installation alone!
