The existing by-law and policy date from 2008-2009 and a review of it is being undertaken.  The 163-page (yes 🙁 ) pdf on this is here.

The change some would like is allowing dogs on leash in the whole town centre and off-leash in some bush areas.

Karl Webber raises the quite valid point that we don’t want little Chouchou doing a poo-poo on the artificial grass in Mahara Place.  He also raises the issue of it causing smells inside rubbish bins on hot summer days, although if they are wrapped well, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

If dogs are going to be allowed then a few hitching posts while owners go shopping or cafe sitting would be needed.

Submissions for the Dog Control Policy and Bylaw consultation open next Tuesday 7 August.  The closing date isn’t stated on the KCDC website.

An added problem for dog owners in parts of British cities nowadays.
