Waikanae Beach by Sally Maquire 2003

Signed and dated Sally Maguire, 2003.  Presumably that is meant to be Kapiti Island, but it looks more like an approaching rogue wave threatening to cause havoc to the beach and adjacent houses…

Possibly it’s meant to depict misty rain clouds and while the higher elevations of Kapiti Island can get cloaked in mist, this effect would be rare. Nor does the island appear as gigantic as shown here. It is 521 metres at the highest point and about 5 km out from Waikanae Beach, thus about a 10% angle above the horizontal.
