It was the prediction for last year also, and proved fairly accurate.  In fact, hotter summers and colder winters than was normal only a few years ago is becoming the worldwide experience.

Communities on or near coasts are normally less affected by such extremes than inland areas, but are not immune to them.  Taking care of hydration needs for people, animals and plants is very important.
