Wouldn’t it be great if it was going to stay like this? But the little stone wall is going to be torn down and the second traffic lane is being removed next year.
I just don’t see the point. Why in this modern age, are people hell bent on destroying that which was painstakingly built by someone earlier in our history. You can bet your bottom dollar that if it had cultural significance to Maori, it would be staying, so why are we not fighting for this? All for a cycle lane? I am beyond angry about what is planned for our main road.
Short of delaying any work until the next election, there is probably no hope for it. And you can bet your bottom rates dollar the council will send the bulldozers in before then.
It will probably result in a new mayor and local councillor though at the next election.
In fairness, Michael Scott was opposed to these plans, as was Mike Cardiff. But what’s happened with our rates payments and the whole value for money question are certainly big issues for the next election.
