Elijah is the grandson of former Kapiti residents Bill and Leslie Clague and has a rare affliction known as microcephaly. This has stunted his growth and caused serious problems for his internal organs. He is also blind. They wondered if he would make it to age two, but he is now three and a half.
Parents Laura and Tane North are both officers in the NZ Army and they have organised a march from Wellington to Auckland to raise money for the expensive treatment, some of it in Sydney, that “wonderboy” requires. The Army is coordinating the walk.
The first day of the Walk comes through Kapiti on Wednesday 13 March and finishes at Waikanae. (We’ll keep you posted on timing.) It would be great if the Waikanae community could support it. Many will remember Leslie Clague when she was Kapiti Libraries Manager.
