The simple standard approach to safety and thus massively reducing the chances of being in an accident is to think “what if?” — What if there’s a sudden blockage ahead? Can I stop without crashing into the car in front? What if that car appearing at the side road intersection doesn’t notice me, or thinks I’m going slower than I am?
Common sense should dictate the steps to take, but there is some good advice on the NZTA website here.
And don’t forget to check your car; most important are the tyres: they need enough tread and be at the right pressure
