Main Road kreuzung

A photo taken from the Main Road of this ’emergency’ level crossing, roughly opposite New World, which has involved the sacrifice of a few trees and parking spaces on both sides of the railway.

According to a comment on the KCDC’s FB page, Goodman’s changed their mind about allowing access through their yard which would have been involved with the first proposal (see earlier).

Why did the council not get on instead with the relatively short link-up of Huia Street  to the Hadfields Road level crossing at Peka Peka?  One obvious problem with this emergency crossing is that the distance between it and the normal Elizabeth Street crossing is only about 350 metres — it wouldn’t require a freight train to be very long to block both.

How much is this costing? We’ll ask.
