A Wallace Trickett photo showing a 1983 Volvo B10. Although it doesn’t have a School Bus sign, that is what it must have been at that time. The destination sign states “North Beach Circuit”.

Very old, Very noisy and no doubt pushing out 100,000 part per million of toxic fumes to all who breath near it.
Wonder why NZ doesn’t test against pollution.
Mined you (warming up) just drove along the EWY again today Higgins is continuing to rip up and re-seal the road. Digging down 20 to 30cm.
Had me thinking that the story I heard was that National wanted the road open at all cost to try and get a couple more votes in the last election. They then overrode advice that the weather wasn’t suitable for the top coat.
The surface failed and millions of dollars are now spent along with the inconvenience of corrected National blunder.
No heads roll and arguably the effect is that the Levin part of the road gets delayed.
As far as we know, the only requirement is that a vehicle does not make visible smoke for more than 4 seconds. If you see one that does, report it on *555.
The constant need to repair the ‘Ewy’ surface as well as melting roads in modest summer temperatures certainly deserves a Commission of Inquiry,

Would love to know how true the story is.
