With the National Party launching its petition for a full size expressway north from Otaki into the Horowhenua district, another photo by the late Jack Creber seems opportune.

This shows the second to last train, a passenger special, on the Foxton Branch line in July 1959. This ran 31 km from Foxton to Longburn.  The photo will show what is now State Highway One in the approximately 10 km between Foxton and Himatangi where the line turned east.  One assumes that the road was subsequently widened over the old railway right-of-way.
