protest against Iran

This is a picture we took in Paris in July 2012 of a protest on the Champs Elysées outside the offices of Iran Air about the Iranian regime’s treatment of journalists.

Iran, like Saudi Arabia, is a barbaric totalitarian theocracy that regularly imprisons and tortures journalists. But the British government has done the same with Julian Assange, which makes it no better.

The NZ government is no better either with the politically motivated raids by police Einsatzgruppen like the one reported yesterday.

Freedom of speech, including freedom of journalists to investigate and report, is fundamental to a democracy.  You may disagree with what others have to say, but they should have the right to say it.  Once that right starts being eroded, so starts the slippery slope to an autocracy where an elite clique rules and not the people.
