The e-mail sent to Martin Warriner by TVNZ confirming this is below (click for full view). There have been previous posts from him and others on here pointing out that its use is both linguistically and legally incorrect. Not only do Ngāti Toa and Ngāti Raukawa say this, so do Ngātiawa ki Kapiti.
