Pinus radiata or Monterey pine trees cover large forestry plantations in NZ. They look nice when small, and are often used as Christmas trees, but are not so nice when large.

pine forest monocultures are a disaster environmentally – deplete stream flows with thirst for water, acidification of soils/ecosystem, silt laden runoff with wholesale clear felling practices, quite apart from damage to roads by forestry trucks, plus NZ forest industry is 75% foreign owned. How stupid can governments be!!!
