The first tranche of $50 million was dished out last year, to be followed by a second of $75 million and now a third. (BFD photoshopped image)

According to this article on the NZ Herald website:

“The money – $10 million this financial year, $20 million the year after and a further $25 million in 2022/23 – will be open to all media outlets, Broadcasting and Media Minister Kris Faafoi said.

“Covid-19 and the lockdowns last year highlighted the important role our media plays in providing up-to-date, independent and trusted information to the public.”

But how much of this handout is actually likely to make it to media organisations outside of NZME (NZ Herald), Newshub, Stuff, RNZ and TVNZ? The easiest way to decide is to find out how much of Jacinda & Co.’s $50 million from last year went to each of these and whether any made to it smaller operations — we’ll do an OIA.
