The Olde Beach Bakery in Ono Street is part of the trio of businesses which includes the Long Beach café and bar in Tutere Street (see this post from 2017) and the Salt & Wood in Ngaio Road. All three grow vegetables for use in the meals served. In the case of Salt & Wood, the garden is small, but the other two are of a significant size. This garden has netting over all of it to keep birds from pecking at things,

In addition, we’re told there is a home garden in the hills which provides more. All are busy and there are kilograms of vegetables a day taken from them.

We suggested that the public should also start growing their own vegetables as a means of reducing their household expenditure with the steadily increasing cost of food and they readily agree. We’ll have a few articles on this subject.
