We posted this meme two years ago, but with the local racial animosity stirred up last month by (probably deliberate) misreporting by Stuff, it’s worth reposting. And as we said then, being proud of your ethnic heritage does not mean hostility towards someone else’s. Intercultural understanding and mutual appreciation will lead to harmony.

I cannot quite express how totally I agree with these sentiments, which is why I am skeptical of the ‘one NZ’ ideas occasionally expressed here. The problem is how cultures can live free without outside dictates, as far as practicable, which are the result of Late Western capitalism (globalisation) , aided by the useful idiots of the left.
The problem for NZ is how John A Lee put it: the only thing the pakeha won from the land wars was debt. The debt the government took over from the charlatans of the NZ Company was not paid off until the mid 1940s: a century of accumulated usury.
Yet when the Waitangi Tribunal had a rare look into the practices of 19th Century speculators associated with the BNZ the conclusion was that they were far-sighted entrepreneurs. Much easier to malign the hapless settlers brought here on promises of a new life.
