My Walk in Wardrobe! Is at Waikanae Memorial Hall on Saturday, 19 June 2021 – 10.00 a.m. — 2.00 p.m.

“Meet Katy Pakinga who has been coordinating sustainable fashion markets for over six years, starting in Australia and bringing them to Wellington with her, when she moved here two years ago. She says the Fashion industry is the second largest polluter in the world, just after the oil industry. Then there’s the rabbit hole of unethically made fast fashion made to meet the thirst for cheaper and cheaper clothing, today’s fashion and tomorrow’s landfill. And now most of us have so many clothes that we don’t wear, that someone else could love! Katy says “My Walk in Wardrobe” is an event where people can clear out their wardrobes and make a few dollars passing them onto someone else to enjoy them. She also works with lots of small businesses who buy at op shops, upcycle or rework items, then resell them. Preloved, upcycled, vintage, hand made, locally made – clothing, shoes, jewellery and accessories…..

“My Walk In Wardrobe is for everyone — whether you’re trying to be a thrifty shopper, trying to be more mindful of the environmental impact of fast fashion, wanting something unique and fun or simply wanting to make some extra cash by cleaning out your own wardrobe. At the end of each market, stallholders have the option to donate any of their unsold clothes to selected local charities. So let’s be a little more mindful about where our clothes come from and where they will go when we’re finished with them. Come and see Katy and all the stall holders at Waikanae Memorial Hall on the 19th and be inspired!”
