As in Minneapolis last year, the cop is clearly putting his knee on the man’s neck. Fortunately, in this case it did not result in the man’s death, but an Independent Police Conduct Authority inquiry needs to be made into what happened; this sort of police brutality is simply not acceptable. As we have said before, most NZ cops are good — as they are in America — but a small minority are not. We gather this incident took place in Christchurch. A bystander did the right thing and video’d the policeman’s attacks on his phone camera.
Unacceptable behaviour, he should lose his job and pension. He should also be charged with dereliction of duty and endangerment.
