A video now gone viral shows former Green Party candidate and ‘decolonisation officer’ Lourdes Vano inciting homicide against white people — a bizarre contrast to the same party calling for tighter hate speech laws.
Vano, ranked 15th on the Green Party list for the 2020 election, filmed herself dancing in a Tik Tok video to a caption reading: ‘I am this close to committing homicide. White people truly working double time on being a nuisance today.’
Amusingly at the start of her political campaign, Vano wrote: ‘anti-racism is such an important stance to take. Not-racist is just not enough’.
The video, now seen over 8,000 times on Twitter and countless more on Tik Tok, has earned her severe backlash and a demand for the Green Party to issue an apology.
Political Commentator David Farrar mused of a double standard, saying: ‘Personally I don’t think a 19 year old saying stupid stuff is normally newsworthy, but when they were given a winnable list ranking, it is different.
‘Put it like this, could you imagine how many days of headlines there would be if a 19 year old who was No 15 on the ACT Party list shared on social media how they are close to committing homicide against brown people, and even worse did so just after a terrorist attack. It would be the major news story for days and days, while this story will be ignored by the media.
‘The other interesting thing is the Government’s proposed hate speech laws, strongly supported by the Greens. If they were in place, would Vano face criminal liability of up to three years jail for what she said?’
Another netizen commented: ‘What is going on in this country? This outrageous racism and a call for violence.’

Clearly it’s racist and hate speech, but she is simply revealing herself to be a nut case — and that can be said about most of the present Green Party caucus. It doesn’t affect our stance on the Jacinda government’s legislative notions about this subject. —Eds
Where is the link to the video, and has it been verified for certainty that she is making the comment? If it is a video showing her dancing while there is a caption overlay, it does not seem overly convincing. Europhobia is routine enough, without the need for hoaxes, if that is the case.
