This item from the BFD‘s regular feature ‘Stuff-up of the day’ demonstrates that TV1 News is sloppy with grammar as well as with the truth.
It’s just a simple fix needed and a competent editor or sub-editor would deal with this by shifting the three words ‘on social media’ before ‘about’, and you’d think that with the millions upon millions of Taxpayer dollars that the Jacinda government is giving media companies to train journalists in Cultural Marxism and her party’s ideology, that some could be used to teach basic English comprehension.
This kind of thing has been an issue in NZ for over 15 years. I was appalled at the amount of grammatical and spelling mistakes in the main stream media when I first arrived off the boat. My own is not perfect but nowhere near as bad. Just reading the above headline gave me a headache. What does it mean? Was the mother flashing her body at passers by?
I also once tried to advertise my business in Stuff’s classified ads. Five times they screwed it up, with a slew of grammatical and spelling errors. I listed these and sent my complaint off, they ignored half of what I had said and published it anyway. I even re-blocked the ad myself with the corrections and returned that to them, their version with red ink highlighting the obvious errors. Result? They still missed some. In the end I gave up and told them I wanted a full refund and for them to remove all my details from their servers and to never contact me again. They even stuffed that up and called me trying to drum up business for their classifieds ads. I ‘m quite a tolerant man but I think the caller ended up with some hearing damage after that call.
with Stuff you must expect Stuff-ups…
