Wai’anae on the main island of Oahu in Hawaii is missing the ‘k’ but otherwise the word has the same meaning — mullet water. Often the apostrophe is omitted. The population is about the same as Waikanae (13,000) although the ethnic mix is different: Waikanae is 90% white, whereas Wai’anae is only 10% white, with 27% Pacific Islander and 20% Asian — 42% are from 2 or more races.

It would be an obvious sister town.
