As National’s Dr Shane Reti says, health care should be need-based, not race-based.

Chance to submit against racist health bill ends tomorrow
The Government needs to go back to the drawing board to produce a health structure which aims for good health outcomes for all and eliminates the race-based approach of the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Bill, according to Queen’s Counsel Gary Judd. See his Legal opinion

The closing date for submissions is 11.59pm tomorrow, Thursday, December 9.

With silence taken as acceptance, and since the submissions process is a numbers game, we want as many people as possible to submit against the Bill.

For those who have not yet submitted, here are a few comments that you could enter into the submission window on the link below.

Just click here and follow the prompts. When it says, “I wish to make the following comments”, say “I wish to oppose the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Bill”, and in your own words outline the points you want to make, which could be either or both of the following:

No public mandate has been sought for segregating our health system – New Zealanders overwhelmingly support health services prioritised on clinical need, not race.

Restructuring the health system during a pandemic is reckless and will cost lives. The restructure diverts the attention of key health staff from the Covid crisis and from providing treatment for those tens of thousands of patients whose urgent medical care has been delayed because of lockdowns.

Finally, urge the Committee to recommend the Bill be withdrawn so our health professionals can go back to the drawing board and create a system that will achieve good health outcomes for all.

Thank you.
