A letter to this effect was sent to staffers and elected members on 22 December, signed by Sean Mallon as Group Manager of Infrastructure Services. Why not by boss Mr Maxwell? He was probably on holiday by that stage. We’re told he returns next Monday.
“Following consultation with our staff, SLT [Senior Leadership Team] has confirmed that we want everyone who works here, both our staff and the people who carry out work for us, to be fully vaccinated against [covid].”
It then trots out the standard government excuses that the Pfizer substance reduces transmission of the China virus and that people are less likely to become seriously ill.
“All Council employees to provide evidence of their covid Vaccine Pass to our HR team by 25 January 2022. The Policy also sets out expectations for the people who do work on our behalf and we will be contacting these people in January to make them aware of our Policy requirements.
“Vaccine passes will be required to enter the Civic building, Takiri North and Takiri South from 25 January 2022.”
This seems to include elected members too, as Mr Mallon states, “I understand that the Mayor will be discussing this with you in due course.”
As elsewhere in the public service, Maxwell and Mallon probably see it as a good way of pushing out staffers who think for themselves and question anything they decide as they only want obedience to those at the top of the pyramid. By the same token, however, it will only reinforce for those who dislike a rigid, inflexible top-down management system that KCDC is not the place for them.
Time for the people to act. The Council have shown their true colours – yellow. What does “do not comply” mean? You cease to pay your rates. The “no jab no job” policy is an horrendous assault on staff. Any thinking concerned person who witnesses this crime can take action by simply not paying their rates. And let the Council know about it, and it needs to be announced publicly through a local newspaper? Let’s see what that does. The people have the power – NOT the Council. The Council are to be there FOR the people, not against. They are completely outside their jurisdiction, and worse. It will mean arrest for the Council instigators in due course, and court action.
The management of KCDC are part of the mass formation psychosis as put forward by Professor Mattias Desmet of Ghent University. The same conditions as happened to the citizens during 1930s Nazi Germany. As the saying goes “those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat it”‘. I wonder if there is anyone in KCDC who has heard of the Nuremburg Code?
Mandates of ”no jab no job” are a rape (to use Qantas’ Capt Graham Hood’s term)) against the individual by their employer (or the government), because in many (or most) situations such jabs are against the person’s will. Eventually evil will be overcome: it took nearly 6 years of WW2 to defeat fascism, and this time there will be no hiding for the perpetrators of their crimes.- maybe plenty of suicides.
The restrictions on rate-paying residents entering Council property is also reprehensible, and all these assaults can be addressed in the same way – refusal to pay rates. Come on rate-payers, time to show your mettle.

These mandates around the world are terrible. I’m keeping a weather eye on Victoria as they just mandated booster shots or no job and be labelled scum of the Earth.
