Auckland Council chief executive Jim Stabback has received a $30,000 pay rise, taking his salary to $630,000.
The 5 per cent increase was approved 12 votes to eight behind closed doors by Mayor Phil Goff and councillors in mid-December and backdated to September 1 last year.
The council is also negotiating a possible 6 per cent pay rise for staff after inflation hit 5.9 per cent for the December quarter. This would cost the council $57 million and take the wages bill to $1 billion for the first time.
That should make Auckland Ratepayers happy–not. The new figure for Mr Stabback is exactly double what KCDC’s Mr Maxwell gets, although the population catchment area is about 30 times greater.

Just look at that smug, smiling, face (yes, posted intentionally). Fat cat, calling the shots. And the populace just goes with the flow …………….. think about the “clowns” sitting, as elected by us NZers, in the Bee Hive, telling us what we can (and what we must) do, and what we cannot (and should not) do. These clowns being paid fortunes, at our expense – auntie jacinda and her mob are squandering our tax paid dollars (last count, NZ$63 billion on covid). Time for change; time that we the people stand up and say “no more”. Jacinda, Chris Luxon, and the rest (what ever side of the floor from where you come), you are all a waste of good NZ $$$$$$$$$. May I remind you politicians (as I have posted before), you are elected to serve the people; not dictate and control those who put you in your seat in parliament. Jacinda …………. that includes you. Luxon – time for you to step up to the plate; It is time for change.
