Recreational firearms group says the spate of gang shootings in Greater Auckland shows the government is failing to deal with the main issue.
President of the Sporting Shooters Association, Chaz Forsyth, says “this level of gang violence in our biggest city is a clear indication, that all the Government firearm legislation since March 2019 has been a complete failure – to say nothing of a total waste of several hundred million of taxpayer money.”
Recreational groups have long said since the 2019 mosque shooting aftermath and rushed reactionary laws by politicians, that the Prime Minister targeted the wrong people in gun confiscation and with new laws making it harder for responsible law-abiding Kiwis to own firearms.
Get proactive with gangs
“Rather than spending a further $ 208 million on requiring the Commissioner of Police to micro-manage shooting clubs and their ranges, as well as compiling lists of privately owned firearms, the Prime Minister would be better advised to spend tax payers money on more pro-active policing of the numerous gangs and their members who are currently poking a finger at her and the police,” said Chaz Forsyth.
“Far be it for us to tell the government how this should be done, but it is clear that the government has been poorly advised in its arms legislation. Legislation which has spectacularly failed to make New Zealand safer. In fact it is a far less safe country than it was 3 years ago,” he said.
SHOT says the police and government have failed
Support came from a group Sporting Hunters Outdoor Trust (SHOT) which said senior police and government had failed.
“Why doesn’t the Prime Minister ask firearm experts like gunsmiths, instead of bureaucrats?’ said SHOT spokesman Laurie Collins. “It’s so obvious the gangs are better armed due to the bungled 2019 buyback scheme.”
He said the competence of police bureaucrats at senior management level needed searching scrutiny.
“The police out on the beat are often good, realistic chaps but the desk based top echelon and the police association advising government are out of touch.”

It would be hard not to be aware of the recent numerous incidents of gun violence in both Jacindaland and America as they are headline news on the MSM and any massacres make it to international headlines.
While measures to control and reduce gun violence have been a longtime issue in America, it wasn’t until a visiting lunatic decided to shoot up two mosques in Christchurch in 2019 that it became an issue in NZ and we all know what it led to under PM Ardern.
We also know that her instantaneous emotionally driven reaction in ramming through new laws with only token consultation and ordering a witch hunt for ‘right wing extremists’ was futile and has not stopped the problem of gun violence which has worsened a lot.
Why have shootings and crime generally become so much worse recently?
In my view there is one glaring elephant in the room: the fallout from the MSM/government-promoted Covidiocy over the last two years. The massive melodramatic scaremongering over a manufactured, but clearly far from weapons grade virus in a Dr. Fauci-funded Wuhan lab made Climatism look tame in comparison: Lockdowns and draconian restrictions on people’s liberty took a huge toll on mental health in the community. Then there is the effect of being forced to have injected into them a shonky and dangerous substance that many didn’t want. And of course, there could have been significant mental health damage from the Pfizer substance itself. One notable case in Timaru that stands out for me was that of a double-jabbed-up mother of three who ‘allegedly’ killed her three young children last year, article.
The most sensible Federal level proposals in America to deal with the ease that almost anyone has to obtain guns legally are firstly, the compulsory background checks whether at a dealer or a gun show, and secondly increasing the age at which people can buy a MSSR from 18 to 21 so that in theory at least the possessers have more maturity.
The “red flag” laws that many states have whereby police have the power to confiscate someone’s guns if he/she shows signs of mental instability are more controversial. There have been instances when Leftists have made such accusations against conservatives they don’t like for political reasons. One notable and disturbing such case in Jacindaland happened at the beginning of this year in Christchurch, see this post.
How can governments stop this type of mass psychosis in populations? The obvious answer is to stop fearmongering with massive hyperbole over issues that require attention, but that’s all.
I have a simple and cost effective solution to the gang violence problem. (1) Place an advertisement for 21st century gladiatorial games
(2) Instead of “bread and circuses.” offer “booze and gang fight.”
(3) Hire a large stadium
(4) Charge admission
(5) Get 1 gang at 1 end of the stadium and another at the other end
(6) Place copious amounts of weapons on the half way line
(7) Blow the whistle and let them “have at it.”
(8) Repeat the events until no gangs left

When will the dead head ministers and politicians realise that criminals by definition ignore the law, so making laws “stronger“ that affect only law abiding citizens, makes no difference at all, as we clearly see now in Auckland. NZ Police need to grow some, and APPLY THE LAW (not make them up, as they have been) and DEAL TO the gangs directly! Leave shooters alone; they/we are NOT the problem!
Over the past decades, politicians of both major parties have promised and totally failed to deal with gangs and related crime.
They seem to perceive promoting fear of gangs as a useful election strategy but provide no remedies for this social problem.
Gang participation and related crime continues to persist and increase.
Gang members mostly regard government efforts to deal with them as a rather insignificant nuisance.
When efforts to address a problem consistently fail it is because the people involved cannot understand the problem they are attempting to solve.
The people in this current government have consistently failed to understand or solve the problems they told voters they would address and their proposed means of dealing with gang related crime clearly indicates their ongoing lack of understanding and competence.
Only a complete fool would attempt to reduce crime by criminalizing more people but those who are paid to serve us do not seem to understand this simple fact.
New and unjustified legislation that is (intentionally?) difficult to comply with will criminalize peaceful and responsible owners and users of firearms because such discriminatory and unjust political bullying does not encourage trust or cooperation.
It seems that their “solutions” are a significant part of our problems.
Voters need to ask themselves,
“How did this candidate’s name get on the ballot paper?”
“Who selected, supported and promoted this politician and why?”
“Who funded the political sales and marketing propaganda to solicit my vote and what will they receive in return for their investment?
You will find that small groups of elite and influential members of the 2 main parties decide who the rest of us will be allowed to elect and wealthy “entities” provide money to help them become elected.
You will find that most of the influential people that choose who we are allowed to vote for are Omnipotent Moral Busybodies who believe they are entitled to force the rest of us to do whatever they think “is good for us” without our consent.
We have an ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE PROBLEM that is perhaps greater and more dangerous than the gangs or the other issues that we are manipulated to fear.
Our political system, in which a very small minority of influential party members and funders can decide who will be elected to SERVE THEM in the government, has become an OLIGARCHY and that is very dangerous.
The solution is to RESPONSIBLY REBEL by either.
1. Joining and becoming actively involved in one of the main parties to understand what goes on in their secret meetings.
or
2. Stop voting for the politicians they choose and promote to represent them.
By most metrics, the social and economic wellbeing of most New Zealanders has been steadily deteriorating since the 1980 while our government employees have burdened us all with more and more restrictive rules and regulations “for our own good”.
It is time to admit that government by the influential minority in the National and Labour parties has and will continue to be very detrimental to our wellbeing and futures.
We cannot change the people that have control of our political system but we can and should change ourselves and stop voting for their puppets.
There are suitable people from diverse backgrounds in the smaller political parties who would probably appreciate an opportunity to serve the people of New Zealand better than those that we have been electing.
Why not give them a chance because we probably have more to gain and little to lose by opposing the current Oligarchs who want complete authority and control over us.
The incidence of robberies and violent crimes is increasing, as we would expect, as the social and economic wellbeing of the people deteriorates.
The armoring and offensive arming of the police clearly indicates that New Zealand is no longer the peaceful and safe place it used to be.
Some people are thinking of having firearms to protect themselves but the Prime Minister says NO.
““Firearms are not the answer; firearms are not the answer,” Ardern said. “They will never be the answer. We don’t want to see people put themselves at risk.”
How does being able to protect and defend ourselves put us at risk?
Excuse me dear Jacinda but people are already AT RISK and the involvement of the police after the risk has become reality is of no benefit to the victims of the crimes.
They may or may not turn up after the damage has been done but that is of little benefit for the victims.
Have we not learned from that tragic Christchurch incident that people who are deprived of the ability to defend themselves get injured and killed?
You may be well protected by effective minders (and that is good) but the rest of us are not an that is not acceptable.
In reality, we are all “sitting ducks” and easy prey for any violent criminal who wishes to harm us or our personal property at any time.
You and your noddy mates who control this government do not seem to care and, in fact, you are actively and intentionally disabling us from being able to defend ourselves, our families and our property.
Jacinda. The effective means of protecting ourselves from criminals is actually a basic human right like many of the other rights you have recently violated recently and your charade of being kind and concerned for our “wellbeing” is being exposed.
You obviously don’t care if people are assaulted, raped, murdered or robbed or you would not be so intent on preventing them from effectively resisting these ever increasing risks.
You and generations of ambitious politicians have been promising to protect us from gangs and violent criminals for decades and the risks have steadily increased.
Admit the failure.
The evidence is clear for all to know.
Our employees in the government do not, cannot and will not protect the people and their property from criminals and we have to rely and depend on ourselves.
Instead of increasingly criminalizing responsible, peaceful, law abiding people for owning and safely using firearms we ought to be encouraging and enabling them to effectively protect themselves, their families and their personal property.
The proper function of firearms regulations ought to be promoting, encouraging and enabling the safe and responsible use of them by decent law abiding people (ie. the majority of NZ citizens) instead of criminalizing, disarming and disabling them from defending themselves and their property from armed and dangerous criminals.

Everyone, especially our ignorant politicians and police, should take a few minutes to listen to her most eloquent testimony before they waste anymore taxpayer money enacting more useless firearms legislation. We already have all the gun laws that will work in place and we do not need anymore.

Until Ardern started messing with our firearms legislation (even before the Christchurch shooting which was enabled precisely because the police failed to properly enforce the laws already in place to ensure only “fit and proper” persons were granted a licence) our gun laws were internationally regarded as the best, most effective and cost effective body of firearms legislation in the world and we enjoyed one of the lowest rates of firearms crime of any country in spite of our high rate of civilian firearms ownership.
Since the police have proved themselves incapable of administering the firearms licencing system efficiently – who would put up with a wait of more than six months to simply renew their driving licence whilst having their car confiscated until the new driving licence was issued? What we need is an independent firearms licencing authority (another promise Labour have broken) and for the police to enforce the current laws and to target the criminals who misuse guns not law abiding sporting shooters who cause no harm and who just want to be left alone to pursue their lawful hobbiies and interests.

There is a very effective and appropriate way to rid ourselves of undesired politicians.
Join and become an active and influential member of the National or Labour Party.
It costs very little to join.
With a little persistence and effort, you can find out when and where the local, secret electorate meetings are held.
Go along and meet the handful of people that regularly participate.
You will find it very interesting and somewhat astonishing to discover what sort of people are deciding.
1. Who decides what politicians the rest of the people will be allowed to vote for.
2. How to manipulate the “masses” to vote for their chosen representative.
3. What their chosen politicians will do if elected.
The people that end up being in government get there because they have the support and confidence of this small minority of influential Political party members and also the rich “donors” who provide money in return for political favors.
Our governments have always and will probably always be by and for the influential people within the National or Labour parties, so supporting the multitude of new little parties will not change anything.
The good news is that these political parties are really just small groups of people (many of whom are elderly) and introducing more new people can easily change their culture and decisions.
New people who desire privacy, independence, freedom, constitutional rights and less government meddling in our lives would gradually change the culture and agendas of these parties and thereby change who governs us and what they do to us.
These politically elite people do not want the rest to know who they are, how few they are and what they are up to because that would reduce their authority and political power.
That is the answer to your question.
Now all we have to do is inform more and more people, get them involved and take over.
