Comparing two images of the same location from different periods in time showing little to no apparent change in sea level does not prove that rising sea levels and climate change are myths
kia ora Stephen/Wayne/Matt. Give our regards to Joanna. A spokesperson for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology says in regard to Sydney Harbour: “Global rates of change range from 1.4 mm/yr (between 1901 and 1990) to 3.2 mm/yr (between 1970 and 2015), while estimates of sea level rise within Sydney Harbour range from 0.73 – 1.13 mm/yr (between 1914 and 2007).” It don’t look like we’re gonna drown anytime soon, eh bro?
A global sea level rise of up to 3.2 mm/yr may not seem much (its only 32 cm every hundred years) but the Maldives might find that alarming when 80% of the islands are less than 1 m above sea level. But you’re right, for those of us in Waikanae who can swim, thats obviously not a concern.
No one in Waikanae has anything to worry about from sea level rise. Flooding from deluges is another matter. When Nanaia has completed her grab of wastewater assets off KCDC, do you think her new Agency is going to give fixing them any more priority than what KCDC does? Or will she look at the racial composition of every town and decide that because Waikanae is 90% European, we are at the bottom of the priority list?
