This video showing the arrest of three youths in East Auckland has been referred to the Independent Police Conduct Authority following claims of police brutality. It shows an officer punching one of the youths several times in the head. The stolen vehicle failed to stop for police about 4.30 pm Monday 26 September on Alfriston Rd.
While it’s good that the police are actually doing something about youth crime for once, behaving like this is unacceptable.

Considering these kids stole the car they were in and probably drove dangerously putting other road users at risk, I think they got what they richly deserved. The police must be fed up with catching these idiots and watching them walk away with a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket. A good hiding is what is needed to stop youth crime. I feel a lot sorry for the owner of the stolen car, not for the kids.

Civil liberties must always be respected. Whilst the thieves are annoying, police must act with restraint.
I cast my mind back to the protests at parliament where thuggish behaviour abounded because the government was being called to account. The protesters were regarded as being wrong by a lot of people and there were people at my work who thought they got their just deserts.
Respect for the police is at an all time low and I don’t know that it will ever recover because many of the mature and more moderate police officers with a bit of life experience have been driven out and replaced with attack dog officers.

Even if it’s the only punishment these juveniles get because of the wokeism this government has imposed on judges, that’s not the police’s role.

It is the job of police to catch and charge not issue judgement or punishment regardless of the laxity of the judicial system, that is a different matter all together. Do we want armed Judge Dredds on the street?
