It may look like a burial ground for Ukrainians killed in Joe’s war, but is actually a lot of recent plantings of native trees and shrubs in the Pharazyn Reserve. This pic shows about half of them in the grassy area; there are a lot more in the already vegetated perimeter and many have been planted by the two Waikanae schools during Arbor Days.

It seems that the KCDC has decided that the big problem caused by rabbit burrows plus the undulations don’t make it a suitable sports park, but there is still plenty of open area.
