This separates the Marae from the street and if it doesn’t look appealing, it’s not. It needs a mural. Louise Aitken has talked with the iwi about it and while they’re interested in doing something, the problem is the cost: professional mural painters can charge up to $100 per square metre and doing a wall this size won’t be cheap.
I think that the concept of a mural along that wall is an excellent one. The Learning Connexion produces some wonderful outcomes as an art school. Their current students will be nearing the end of their assessments at this point. An approach to the school could well result in their involvement – either over the holiday break or as a part of next year’s activity. It would certainly be worth an approach – 04 568 0320.
