The PekaPeka to Otaki Expressway now has an official opening ceremony date; two years late.
At the time construction began in 2017 its cost was put at $330 million. It is now $445 million; that works out at $34,231 per metre.
NZTA (a.k.a. Waka Kotahi) has sent out invitations to the Wednesday morning opening ceremony of the 13 km [8 mile], four-lane stretch of State Highway 1. NZTA can’t say when the road will be open to the public. However, says the Dominion Post, “it is expected before Christmas.” That allows only 3 full days, of course.
