Council welcomes Te Ara Whetū

We’re very grateful to accept from Te Ātiawa ki Whakarongotai their gift of the name Te Ara Whetū for the new library in Waikanae.

Te Ara Whetū translates to the passage of stars, and the concept of ‘stars from the mountains to the sea’.

The name also speaks to the streams running from the hills making their way to the ocean and ultimately linking us with Kāpiti Island.

It celebrates our district’s heritage and peoples, and the strong partnership between Council and mana whenua.
