The response to “legal expenses” doesn’t identify how much was paid to each of these firms and why; only the aggregate fees of $694,000.
Last year, candidate Christopher Ruthe said that the council’s total spend for external legal fees should only be about $75,000 a year — as can be seen, it is nearly ten times that.
Mr Dougherty appointed Tim Power as his in-house lawyer not so long ago — what does he do?
Has CRU talked about how we can change the culture of KCDC?
My feeling is that there is general outrage about their spending our money and inability to live within their means. Are Mr Ruthe and yourself intending to stand in 2019 to represent those who feel powerless( like myself ) to challenge those who subscribe to this tax and spend, borrow and blow policy? i would stand but lack experience.
This is a topic that will be raised with interested people, including 3 present community board members (1 in Waikanae and 2 in Paraparaumu) later this year.
CRU was organised specifically to challenge former council boss Dougherty’s obsession with rising sea levels, despite a lack of evidence that is happening (several posts on that subject), but the also the autocracy that saw these unilateral actions happen.
What we need is a ticket of 10 candidates to challenge the existing councilors (assuming David Scott won’t stand again — if he does we need 9 candidates) plus of course a mayoral candidate, and there is someone we have in mind for that.
Yes, I intend to challenge Michael Scott again in the Waikanae Ward. For those like yourself considering standing, experience on a council isn’t important, “full training will be given.”
Thanks, Geoffrey Churchman
Thanks for prompt reply,Geoffrey. I am willing to meet with with other like-minded people – in person if practicable – to determine if i am serious about standing in 2019..
Would prefer to start training in the ‘off season’ for ‘the main event’.Cafe meeting sometime soon would be welcome.
