This intended subdivison has been pre-advertised for a while, but now we have some specifics, via a pdf for the Community Board meeting next Tuesday: “The complete proposed development is for 13 new residential allotments.”
The map above shows the layout with a new road which needless to say needs a name: “This report refers to the naming of the road shown as New Road on the attached Appendix.” These are: Stetson Rise, Mac’s Place and Stetson Rise. The ‘stetson’ is of course the name of an American cowboy hat.
The pdf states:
“For 45 years The Stetson Group (Stewart and Patricia Macpherson) have been producing entertainment in New Zealand and around the world. Their productions exceed 650, many of which have been presented in Kāpiti and the greater Wellington area.
“Over the last 40 years, their business has operated from their home at 206 Ngarara Road, Waikanae, which has been evidenced by the carved wooden sign at the base of their driveway since 1979 [see the Google Streetview below, although this is not where the new road will be, which is a bit to the north —Eds].
“Both ‘Stetson’ and the Macpherson family are synonymous with the location. Given that the subdivision will be called Stetson Estate, all three of the names given as options are appropriate and relevant.”
Some will remember Stuart MacPherson from the early 1970s on radio 2ZM. The 13 lots mentioned in this subdivision clearly includes the existing house and there are some ancillary buildings on 2 more of them, although presumably these will be demolished. Another 12 houses in the area, which is pretty quiet, isn’t going to add to traffic congestion, except maybe during construction.
