In it’s latest e-Newsletter the council states: “Over the next fortnight we’ll start building an emergency railway crossing in Waikanae to allow emergency vehicles to cross the tracks if the main crossing gets blocked – say, if there’s a quake or a breakdown. The works are about 100 m north of the Waikanae Railway Station, at the intersection of Pehi Kupa Street and Hira Street. We’ll have traffic management in place and we don’t expect much disruption during works.”
