This relates to Mr Maxwell’s desire to close the Waikanae Recycling facility on 1 August (see yesterday’s post).
When our editorial group was forwarded this, as arrogant as we know Mr Maxwell to be, we could scarcely believe it. He simply can not call the 5 Councillors opposed to what he wants “freeloaders.” This is well beyond what is acceptable of a Council Chief Executive. In our view this is a sackable offence and he should be dismissed forthwith.
Mr Maxwell was appointed in 2017 to heed what the elected governors decide, not to bully and abuse them.
Watch this space.
Sadly to some – ‘ Ethics is a place outside London’.
Personally I think Mr Maxwell is behaving in a most offensive manner. In my view he has spoken disrespectfully and should understand that Councillors are elected figures and represent the people of this community. Who exactly is he implying the freeloaders are?
He is referring to Crs Handford, Randall, Elliot and Prvanov
What I was getting at was that the Councillors are acting on my behalf, as a voter and rate payer. If he considers them freeloaders he seems to be tarring those that hold the same view with the same brush.
Very clear that despite Mayoral candidates comments, the tail, the Council Executive, are wagging the dog, the Councillors. council staff has grown 23% in recent years and look at the impact on our rates up 17% last year 7% this year with the hope they can limit rates rises to 5% ie double the rate of inflation going forward. Rates are out of control and unaffordable.
The Govt is taking work away from Councils to return them to core activities. Things like the RMA will reduce Council work effort.
Mayor and Councillors must take control and tell the Chief Executive to come up with a plan to reduce Council staff by 10% of headcount this year and a further 10% next year.
