from Bede Laracy, Chair
The Raumati Community Board understands that KCDC is currently putting together some info around Takutai Kapiti [the Kapiti seashore], and we will leave them to speak for their own process.
The Raumati Community Board have been supportive of the Takutai Kapiti process in general as we viewed it as an opportunity for people to engage on what is a huge issue for Raumati. However, we also took the view that more public education and awareness was needed prior to the public workshops taking place. Prior to engaging with the process people needed to know what was happening, why it was happening, what information the process was relying on, how it was using that information, and what to expect from the process. That information needed to be made clear.
At the Council meeting on 23 March 2023, as shown in the minutes, a recommendation was tabled to Council as follows:
One recommendation was made at the Raumati Community Board meeting on 21 February 2023 in relation to developing a community education plan to facilitate community engagement in the Takutai Kāpiti process.
7.1 The recommendation was:
7.1.1 That the Raumati Community Board requests that Council develops a community education plan to enable Raumati residents to participate effectively in the Takutai Kāpiti process and reports back before the next meeting.
7.2 Council officers note that:
7.2.1 The Strategy and Growth group are working on a communication plan which will be agreed with the Coastal Adaption Project. This is expected to include communication with Community Boards.
The recommendation was moved by Cr Rob Kofoed and Seconded by Cr Sophie Handford. The motion was carried unanimously.
On 08 June 2023 there was a briefing to the Strategy Operations and Finance Committee to provide an update on the Takutai Kapiti process. Takutai Kapiti Chair Jim Bolger said that he was happy to work with Community Boards on the process.
On 25 July 2023, a KCDC staff member provided some useful information about the Takutai process. It was clear at that meeting that people did not understand the purpose behind the Takutai process. While we appreciated the input from the staff member and their mammoth efforts, that briefing was not a “community education plan” as per the agreed recommendation.
The Takutai Kapiti public workshop at the Raumati Bowling Club went ahead on Saturday 29 July 2023 without any involvement with, or input from, the Raumati Community Board. We have had no further opportunity to input into the process despite the undertaking to work with us and despite an agreement for us to provide input. That leaves us unable to comment any further on Takutai Kapiti.
Anyone who was at the bowling club meeting could see right through the council’s climate agenda. Only a very foolish ratepayer would trust these professional thieves…
Yep, totally agree with you there Chris, more than probable the council are going to hand over the seashore line back to the local Iwi. The Barstad’s forget that the ratepayers put them into Office to look after the ratepayers’ interests and wellbeing. Then they bring in their own agendas?
‘The Raumati Community Board have been supportive of the Takutai Kapiti process in general as we viewed it as an opportunity for people to engage on what is a huge issue for Raumati.’
Really? There has been no major issue for Raumati and the area have survived very well before council busybodies got up on their hind legs. The organisation needs to be renamed the Kapiti Coast Henny Pennys.
However, we also took the view that more public education and awareness was needed prior to the public workshops taking place. Prior to engaging with the process people needed to know what was happening, why it was happening, what information the process was relying on, how it was using that information, and what to expect from the process. That information needed to be made clear.
You can have all the damn information your want, the information is being driven by the questionable councillors at KCDC. They are going to keep on with their “process” and supposed consultation until it is rammed through, so they can stop with their bullshit. They think that everyone on the coast is a befuddled idiot, but it’s plain to see that this is about control, control, control with a healthy side order of land grab for the coup de grace.
‘The recommendation was moved by Cr Rob Kofoed and Seconded by Cr Sophie Handford. The motion was carried unanimously.’
Of course it was. The council sell-outs make everything sound like a skipping game of all in together girls. They could give Machiavelli lessons in sophistry and the country had enough of that ordure from the gargoyle who finally slunk out of dodge in January 2023 to much jubilation.
‘On 08 June 2023 there was a briefing to the Strategy Operations and Finance Committee to provide an update on the Takutai Kapiti process. Takutai Kapiti Chair Jim Bolger said that he was happy to work with Community Boards on the process.’
Bet old Jimbo gets some nice little reward for his support of the church of global hoaxing. Too much is never enough for that ilk.
‘On 25 July 2023, a KCDC staff member provided some useful information … While we appreciated the input from the staff member and their mammoth efforts, that briefing was not a “community education plan” as per the agreed recommendation.’
The purpose has always been control and theft.
‘That leaves us unable to comment any further on Takutai Kapiti.’
That’s convenient isn’t it? Why didn’t any of them speak out at the meeting? Did the cat have their tongues?
They will continue on with their worthless word salads but it’s plain to see what’s going on.
The businesses in Raumati currently may end up a victims of this climate wheeling and dealing and people may take some satisfaction of reading of certain liquidations in the future.
This council (Executive Office) is operating outside the scope of the Elected members.
Furthermore the council had a budget of $1,000,000 to complete the CAP process over a 6 year period. To date they have exceeded the budget by 3 times $3,000,000. The Executive team must be made accountable for wasteful spending. Gateway Project, Transport Hub, Waste Recycle. One must ask why we have a government appointed executive team to mismanage our elected officials. If the elected officials are not capable of running the council elect those that can with NO EXECUTIVE TEAM.
