A woman on the Paraparaumu FB group asked this question and after some responses says: “I have now bought what we hope will work for us. Being a pensioner with little money I really have found that Sky is getting too pricey and I must admit I hate all the repeats of repeats that I have to sit through. Many thanks to you all. Below is what I bought.”

Someone else linked to this product available in Warehouse Stationery, and this at Noel Leeming.
We figure a lot of Kapiti pensioners are in this situation now with the massive announced KCDC Rates increase of 17% and power prices and insurance perennially going up. Sky is not good value. There are heaps of interesting videos available for free on the web including via some public libraries (websites like Kanopy), but we subscribe to Netflix also ($US 15.49 a month). All you need to do is connect with a WiFi capable TV, or use an HDMI cable to connect a laptop computer to a TV that’s not WiFi capable. —Eds
I hope you all know what a FANTASTIC job you do with international and national news that we can trust. Every day I breathe a sigh of relief that I don’t have to, firstly, listen to a vile lying television to get any news, and secondly, that I am getting news that is either passed on or presented in an unfiltered manner to me, so that I can decide what is of either information or news. WELL DONE THE LOT OF YOU!!!! On a minor note, but an important one for me, is this rather fabulous “snippet” on sky and the alternatives to said “provider”. Sky has frustrated the heck out of me with their pricing (ever changing) and useless re-runs, simply because I can’t afford the more ‘spectacular’ money making channels. Thanks to your readers (and the gorgeous Kapiti Coast resident who started it all off), I have gone and purchased one of these “thingamy gadgets” and cancelled my sky account. I had no idea what to do, or how to go about it, and here was an answer to my prayer. Each day we face challenges, but it is often the small things that “break our back”. My thanks to all
Thanks for the positive comments they are much appreciated! Geoffrey and Eva plan to ditch Sky too, next week. As a sports addict, Roger likes those channels, and they’re really the only thing that keeps Sky from going down the gurgler.
