Can’t people wake up to the fact that maori in the first haslf of the 19th century, were as far from being one people, or one nation (sorry Pauline), as it was possible to be.
Family and maybe, tribe was it – end of story.
Killing and eating each other was still common.
If the British hadn’t decided to ‘invest’ here in the 19th century (and they almost walked away – the Treaty cemented their commitment), then very few maori would exist today, I strongly believe.
Let that sink in.
Aside from who actually qualifies to be ‘maori’ today (thankyou Palmer), who in their right mind could even suggest that today’s maori families or ‘tribes’ could work together for more than 5 minutes, in any power structure, is naive in the extreme.
And dangerous.
We are now in the 21st century folks.
It’s a new world, stop living in the past.
Wrongs, if they existed, have been very generously compensated for.
We are all one tribe – let’s all accept that and get on productively, working together for the good of all.
I’d wager that what we have in New Zealand, is way, way better than, and the envy of, 90% of the rest of the world.
Let’s not let these self serving, arrogant, racist, power hungry and selfish pricks destroy what we have, and what we have all built.
Ameni
