We gather that it happened outside the Salt and Wood in the awkward ‘crossroads’ formed by Ngaio Road, Marae Lane and Omahi St. The car was in the middle of Ngaio Road after turning from Omahi Street. The police media release simply states:

“A woman who was struck by a car as a pedestrian last week in Kapiti has died. Police were called to the incident on Waikanae’s Ngaio Road on Thursday 28 May at about 12.40pm.

“The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance in serious condition, they said. Police had since been notified that she died on Monday morning.

“The Serious Crash Unit had examined the scene and inquiries into the crash were ongoing.

“Police noted that as the crash itself happened outside the King’s Birthday weekend road deaths period, it would not be counted as part of that number.”
