Although I often listen to KCDC Meeting livestreams (listen being the operative term as the podcast video quality is extremely poor), I decided to sit in the public gallery yesterday for the first time this year to give moral support to those opposing yet another Rates increase well above inflation.
Unfortunately, almost the whole morning was allocated to Bede Laracy’s motion requesting a review of the 2019 ‘Climate Emergency’ declaration:
Wow — Kapiti followers of the Climate Cult were obviously quite agitated about a motion that they saw as challenging their religious beliefs. Of the 14 public speakers, 9 opposed the motion and 1 supported it (John Andrews) The other 4 spoke in opposition to the Rates hike.
“Think what the [Leftist Legacy] Media headline will be if you pass this” said former Mayor Jenny Rowan, demonstrating why Kapiti voters dumped her as mayor in 2013. It’s unlikely TV1 News would care enough about KCDC to talk to Mayor Holborow or the Kapiti College girl Greta-emulator who began the 3 minutes speeches from the public. The Stuffers and Radio NZ would mention it somewhere on their websites.
‘We must honor treaty obligations and obligations to our mokopuna’ said the new Maori ward Councilor Himi Grace. Presumably ‘climate change’ is another recent addition to the 1840 Te Tiriti o Waitangi. In reference to an earlier comment by public speaker John Andrews that CO2 levels were much higher in Jurasic time, he quipped that there was dinosaurs then. Perhaps he doesn’t know that what caused the dinosaurs to die out was a ‘nuclear winter’ effect when the Yucatan penninsula in modern-day Mexico was struck by a giant asteroid (a.k.a. meteorite) roughly 66 million years ago — it had nothing to do with emissions (and sacrifices to the sun and sea gods).
Most of the emotional statements from the Climate Cultists were what can be termed non-sequitirs; lots of claims devoid of rationale and facts. Somehow the miniscule reductions that Kapiti makes in emissions in the Global scene are saving the planet and we must not not interfere with what the Global Oligarchs profit greatly from.
The Cult members of KCDC never once considered, for example, what contributions to ’emissions’ that all the conerete, asphalt and bricks that the District is slowly but steadily being convered in are having.
Probably the one legimate argument that sank the motion, however, was Rob McCann’s view that the report requested of the CEO would be time-consuming, predictable and the information it would draw upon was already in council reports. And he’s right: the KCDC staff is full of anthropomorphic climate change disciples (as distinct from non-anthropomorphic climate change believers), who would simply repeat their catechism.
After 2 and a half hours I felt very despondant that so many around the table just live in their echo chamber and just won’t listen to any evidence and arguments that contradict its mantras. No doubt the Low Carbon Kapiti people went away after to celebrate their ‘win’ with a soy latte and a vegan sandwich each.
Actually, I didn’t care whether Bede’s motion was passed or not: it was mild, inconsequential, and a temporary distraction, unlike the important issue of another big Rates hike and how many in the community are going to suffer because of it.
The despondency I felt was shared by others I spoke to afterwards, including a couple of elected members. I just wasn’t in the mood to return for another session of ignorant comments from ideologues in the afternoon.
What will History conclude about these Climate Thieves, one wonders. The financial mutilations on behalf of these false Gods is monumental. After this meeting they all drove home in the cars made and run on oil, to homes built with oil, in clothes created by oil, to eat food grown by using oil. Do you think when they look in a mirror that they discern what they are looking at?
In the Tararua Ranges behind the Kapiti Coast is the Park Valley in the headwaters of the Waiohine River which flows out to the Wairarapa.
Once a glacier formed there as the climate naturally cooled. Then the climate naturally warmed about 18,000 years ago.
Climate change is a natural cycle, cooling, warming. Take the ideologues up into the Tararuas and show them.
Thank you for suffering the rubbish spouted at this meeting and reporting back to us. No surprises there and good you saved your sanity and blood pressure from rising by not attending the afternoon session, which would have also have been a waste of your time. Confirmation that the KCDC does not want to listen to reality, which is not really a surprise.
