As can be seen from the map, on that day the hitherto single route becomes two:
Route 280 becomes a straight run from the station along Te Moana Road to the Beach Zone where it performs the circuit as before — south along Queens Road, then north along Tutere Street, along some of Field Way and then back along William Street to turn towards the station again at Rauparaha Street.
The new route 281 at this stage consists of a loop from station to Parata Street, then Belevedere Ave, and Ngaio Road back to the station.
We assume the reason why route 281 isn’t yet doing the announced loop on the east side of the railway line is that the bus stops have not been installed.

Does this mean that the Te Moana Road surface will be asphalted without delay?
I seem to remember that the mayor said something along the lines that the new chip was just a base surface for the asphalt!
