Befitting the current mantra of ‘Kindness and Wellbeing’ as it is applied by KCDC boss Mr Maxwell and the present Mayor — a big taniwha! They are supernatural creatures in Māori tradition, similar to serpents and dragons in other cultures and hide in the ocean, rivers, lakes or caves. Many taniwha looked like reptiles, had wings and ate people.

The Wharemauku Stream is only about 60 metres south of the ‘Kapiti Kremlin’ and the intended $5.6 million Guru Gateway on Paraparaumu Beach will be right next to the Titoku Steam…

Thus a firey taniwha displayed in the KCDC HQ entrance is very appropriate!
